Colomba (potato)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Colomba is a predominantly waxy potato variety . The breeder and brand owner is HZPC Holland . It is a cross between Carrera × Agata .

Variety characteristics

It is a very early ripening variety that can be harvested after about 81 days. Despite the mediocre tuber set, the yield is very high due to the relatively large tubers, and oversizes are more common. The tubers have a round oval shape, the flesh color is yellow and remains even after cooking, the skin is very light. The variety has good resistance to potato and powder scab , but is prone to late blight and tuber rot and is very susceptible to it Y virus . Colomba is resistant to the Ro1 and Ro4 pathotypes of the gold nematode .

In 2013 and 2014, the North Rhine-Westphalia Chamber of Agriculture carried out cultivation trials in which a "slightly increased rhizoctonia infestation in the form of tar stains" was found, but overall potential was seen in the variety due to the high yield and "the good intrinsic values". "It should be able to play out its advantages especially as an early variety of the second decade and marketed through the trade."
