Colonel of the Regiment

Colonel of the Regiment is an honorary title from the British Army in the United Kingdom .

The Colonel of the Regiment is often a high-ranking member of the armed forces who has a special bond with the regiment and wears its uniform on ceremonial occasions. The Colonel of the Regiment is not to be confused with the Colonel-in-Chief . He is the patron of the regiment, often a member of the royal family.

Vice Admiral Prince Andrew is the Colonel of the Regiment of the Grenadier Guards , while his mother Elizabeth II is Colonel-in-Chief of that regiment. General Richard Shirreff is Colonel of the Regiment of the King's Royal Hussars .
