Colum Eastwood
Colum Eastwood (born April 30, 1983 in Derry ) is a Northern Irish politician . Since 2015 he has been chairman of the moderate-nationalist Social Democratic and Labor Party . Since 2019 he has represented the constituency of Foyle in the lower house . Before that he represented the same constituency in the Northern Ireland Assembly .
Life
Eastwood was born in Derry in 1983 and went to school there. He studied Latin American studies at Liverpool University, but did not graduate. He is married with two children and lives in Derry.
Political career
In 2005 he was elected to the Derry City Council. From June 2010 he was mayor of Derry for one year. The then 27-year-old was the youngest mayor of the city at the time. In May 2011 he was elected to the Northern Ireland Assembly. Since November 14, 2015 he has been chairman of the SDLP; he defeated the previous incumbent Alasdair McDonnell .
