Colzium House is a manor house in the Scottish town of Kilsyth in North Lanarkshire . It is located in a small forest about a kilometer east of the city. In 1979 Colzium House was included in the Scottish List of Monuments in Category B.

history

The grounds of Colzium House were the site of fortifications centuries before it was built. To the southeast was a moth , which may have been attached to wooden structures, but no remains of it can be found. North of Colzium House was the 15th century Colzium Castle . It belonged to the Edmonstones of Duntreath and was one of the sites of the Battle of Kilsyth in 1645. Colzium Castle was probably destroyed and abandoned in 1703. Today only a fragment of the wall of this structure remains, which forms part of the property's enclosure wall.

Construction of Colzium House began in 1783. Architecturally, it represents a mixture of the regional architectural style and elements of the Renaissance architecture. The main building includes various outbuildings on the property, including an ice house . The building has been owned by Burgh Kilsyth since 1937 . It houses a small museum and can be rented for festive occasions.
