description

Drainage of the springs

The springs are located in Comal County northwest of the city of New Braunfels and are the origin of the Comal River . The Comal Springs are fed by Edwards Aquifer , a huge aquifer in the karst rock . Their total source discharge is 9000 l / s. They can dry up during long droughts . The flow of the springs flows into Landa Lake after a few meters .

In earlier centuries Tonkawas and other Indians camped near the springs. The first Spanish explorer to visit the springs was Damián Massanet in 1691.
