XM1209 Command and Control Vehicle

The XM1209 Command and Control Vehicle (C2V) (German: command and control vehicle ) is a project of the United States Army . It was part of the Future Combat Systems program . If it had been implemented, it would have become part of the military global information grid . The C2V operates the information management of the network, distributes the data from the sensors to the various commanders in the field and sends them instructions. With the termination of the FCS program by Defense Secretary Robert Gates, the project was discontinued.

System description

The Command and Control Vehicle should evaluate the data from the various sensors and create a tactical map of the battlefield. Being represented:

  • Friendly units
  • opponent
  • Civilians
  • Weather conditions
  • Terrain conditions

The crew consisted of two men to operate the vehicle and four officers. They are supposed to communicate with the rest of the network via radiotelephone, video and some kind of email . Since the vehicle was only lightly armored, it was supposed to protect it against anti-tank weapons .
