Commander's Coin
The Commander's Coin or Challenge Coin are medals that are awarded in some states by commanders of the armed forces to their subordinate soldiers, NCOs and officers primarily as a memento and to strengthen the feeling of togetherness . In contrast to other medals (such as Purple Heart or Distinguished Service Cross ) there are no criteria for awarding them; the recipient of the medal does not need to have done any outstanding service. Guests of honor often receive the Commander's Coin as a souvenir.
These medals have also found their way into civil organizations, such as the police and the fire service . Other associations, such as the American Harley Owners Group , have also introduced such medals. The revised design of the White House employee medal under Donald Trump caused a sensation.
The name "challenge coin" (literally: challenge coin) comes from the custom that former service members always carry their medal in their wallet or on a necklace . If the challenger shows his medal, those people who cannot show one must pay the bearer of the medal a round of drinks.
