Commando Memorial

The Commando Memorial is a war memorial on the A82 two kilometers northwest of Spean Bridge in Scotland .

It was unveiled in 1952 by the Queen Mother in honor of the British commandos of World War II . The memorial is on the way from Spean Bridge station to Achnacarry , where the commandos were trained during the war. Due to its location above Spean Bridge on the edge of the Great Glen , it offers good views of Ben Nevis and the surrounding mountains.

The plaque on the base of the monument reads:

"In memory of the officers and men of the commandos who died in the Second World War 1939-1945.
This country was their training ground. "

( German : "In memory of the officers and men of the commandos who died in the Second World War 1939-1945. This country was their training ground.")
