Commonwealth Heritage
The Commonwealth Heritage List contains locations that are determined by the Australian government and which are intended to document the development of Australia into a nation. The list contains e.g. B. Places relevant to national defense or the development of the nationwide communication system.
These can be telegraph stations, munitions factories, immigration centers, lighthouses, or government buildings.
The locations are selected by the Ministry of the Environment (Minister for the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts). The procedure is stipulated by law in the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act) .
An inclusion in the list places the corresponding places under monument protection. To date, 335 locations have been added to the list.
