Comodo Group, Inc. is a group of companies, the software and SSL - certificates provides. Its headquarters are in the United States in Clifton , New Jersey . There are branches around the world, such as in Great Britain , Romania , the People's Republic of China , India , Turkey or the Ukraine . Until the sale of this division, Comodo was the largest issuer of SSL certificates with a market share of 36.6% (as of February 2015).

history

The company was founded in 1998 by Melih Abdulhayoğlu in the UK. The seat has been in the United States since 2004. The products are primarily aimed at computer and internet security. Comodo operated a certification authority that issued SSL certificates, an Internet security system that included an antivirus and a firewall, and also offers other web and network protection services.

  • Comodo CA Lmtd issued SSL and other digital certificates as a certification authority until October 2017. This area was taken over by the investment company Francisco Partners . It has acquired over 150 technology companies since 2002, including a 70% majority stake in the Israeli NSO Group , which also offers the Pegasus program.
  • Comodo Security Solutions, Inc develops and offers protection software such as ComodoAntivirus as well as network protection services for businesses and private use. The headquarters are in Clifton, USA.

  • Comodo SSL - Comodo was founded as a certification authority that issued Comodo SSL and other certificates. The main income comes from products for business and entrepreneurship.
  • Comodo Internet Security (CIS) is freeware for the desktop. It is a firewall, an antivirus program and monitoring that runs in the background. But for more functions you have to buy an extended version.
  • Comodo Antivirus - A free antivirus that supports all major operating systems such as Mac, Linux and Windows. Comodo's latest antivirus supports Windows 10.
  1. Windows Antivirus - Supports all Windows versions from Windows XP SP2.
  2. Mac Antivirus - Supports versions from Mac OS X 10.4 and higher.
  3. Linux Antivirus - Supports all Ubuntu distributions from Ubuntu 12.04.
  • Comodo Mobile Security - A free version of Android that protects Android from viruses, worms and dangerous scripts. In addition, it also supports functions such as SMS & call blocking, a software and processor manager, data and apps backup and data exchange control.

  1. Comodo Dragon - A Chromium-based browser, which has been equipped with protection mechanisms.
  2. Comodo Chromodo - The only difference to the Dragon browser is the standard design; was not brought to market until later.

  1. Comodo Endpoint Security Manager (CESM) - is software that equips central devices in a network to be able to distribute the Comodo security software.
  2. Comodo Securebox was released in July 2014 and was jointly developed with Western Union with the intention of solving the problem of securely handling activities such as financial transactions. This software protects applications and their activities even if the computer is infected with malware.
  3. Comodo System Utilities - this software removes unnecessary data from the PC, such as unnecessary registry entries, cookies, caches and history.
  4. SurGate Labs - is a Turkish software company that specializes in secure emails.
  5. Comodo Backup - Since 2014; Secure backup in a cloud.

Disagreements

Symantec

In response to a criticism of the effectiveness of free antivirus software, the CEO of the Comodo Group challenged the competitor Symantec on September 18, 2010 to a comparison test with regard to protection against malware. Symantec replied that Comodo should have their product tested by independent testers.

On September 29, 2010, Neil J. Rubenking, chief security analyst for PC Magazine, published an article on Comodo Antivirus 5.0 in which he wrote that Comodo blocks more malware than Norton AntiVirus but is less effective at removing it. The review also includes that Comodo had several false positives that altered Comodo's results.
