Compañía del Gas
The Compañía del Gas is a building in the Uruguayan capital, Montevideo .
The building, inaugurated in 1862, is located in the south of the Barrio Sur on the Rambla Gran Bretaña in the section between Río Branco and Ciudadela . Information about the architect of the building, which was originally used as a gas factory, is not available. The building permit dates from 1890. In 2006/2007, a competition was held to redesign and use the factory building for other purposes. The architects Fernando Giordano and Rafael Lorente Mourelle are now responsible for this project. A cultural center, offices and shops are to be accommodated here in the future.
The gas factory has been classified as a Monumento Histórico Nacional since 1975 .
