The Compagnie Auto-Avio Sahariane (sometimes referred to as La Compagnia ) was an Italian desert warfare special unit that operated in Libya and the Sahara during World War II . Their military operations took place in Egypt , Libya and Tunisia until the surrender of the Italian-German forces in May 1943.
