The Compagnie du Chemin de Fer de Semur en Vallon operates a four-kilometer-long museum - narrow-gauge railway with a track width of 600 mm in Semur-en-Vallon in France .
Route
The route runs from a three-track station on the lake to a locomotive shed, in which historical rail vehicles are exhibited, and in the other direction over an intersection to a loop in the forest.
history
In July 1968, an artificially created lake with pedal boats and rowing boats, as well as fishing and swimming, was put into operation as a leisure attraction. From 1972 onwards, only 500-meter-long Decauville tracks were laid there, which had previously been salvaged by the Passeneaud company in Mondoubleau . At the beginning of the 1980s, the narrow-gauge railway was extended and a depot and a museum for the growing collection of historic rail vehicles were built. A few years later, in 1990, the "Muséotrain" was launched, and in 1995 a real train station was inaugurated.
museum
In addition to the rail vehicles, visitors can see 14 videos, six screenings of old films and three sound rooms on a 180 m tour of the 700 m² museum building. The crane bridges from the foundry in Saint-Pavin des Champs (fr) near Le Mans, built for the first time in 1850, are a unique exhibit .
Driving operation
The Muséotrain with 40 seats per train runs daily from July 5 to August 30, 2020 and then on Sundays from September 1 to 27, 2020. Special trips are also possible for groups by prior arrangement until the end of October.
