The Companhia da Zambézia was the third leasing company of the Portuguese colony of Mozambique in the adjoining Northern Rhodesia region Chire that of Nyasaland , Zumbo and Luenha was limited. The society devoted itself primarily to agriculture and animal husbandry as well as salt production. In the agricultural sector, the company operated palm, sisal and corn plantations.
history
The company was founded on May 25, 1892. It was the largest company in Mozambique in terms of its area.
Narrow gauge railway
The Companhia da Zambézia operated a narrow-gauge railway with a gauge of 600 mm around 1925 . The narrow-gauge railway was 21.141 kilometers long. Three from the Krauss & Comp. Locomotives manufactured in Munich pulled 140 wagons (vagonetas), twelve freight wagons (vagons), two passenger wagons (carruagens), two fourgolls and 20 charriots .
