Condition Based Service - information read out from a vehicle key

At the car manufacturer BMW and the car brand Mini, a Condition Based Service (CBS) is a way of individually determining the maintenance requirements of vehicles.

In contrast to the conventional inspection , which is based on fixed time intervals, only those work are carried out that have become necessary due to the actual operating conditions of the vehicle. To determine the need, the vehicle is monitored with the help of several sensors. For example, information about the condition of the engine oil , brake fluid , brakes and filters is recorded. If service work is required, the driver is automatically informed by the vehicle.

The determination that an inspection has become necessary can also be communicated to an authorized dealer . He then contacts the customer to arrange a maintenance appointment.

The Bavarian Motor Works led the process in 1982, other manufacturers have similar concepts (service interval extension, long-life service (VW, Audi), flexible maintenance interval o. Ä.).
