Vehicle inspection

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The vehicle inspection , the inspection or, in Switzerland, the service is a regularly recurring check of important parts of a motor vehicle , which is primarily intended to ensure safety and functionality.

A distinction must be made between whether the investigation is based on legal requirements or whether it is voluntary.

Voluntary inspections

Inspections can be carried out at any time by a vehicle workshop . They are usually carried out at certain time and mileage intervals, but also before a long vacation trip. The vehicle is usually accepted by the service advisor before an inspection ; a direct acceptance is usually carried out before the actual inspection . The purpose of the inspection is to prevent damage, thus maintaining value and, in particular, safety (brakes, lighting, etc.). Vehicle manufacturers usually specify to what extent and how often inspections should be carried out by authorized workshops. Compliance with these dates can be a prerequisite for certain warranty services by the manufacturer.

Inspections are very important for a car repair shop as they generate a lot of profit and keep the company going.

Main working positions of a small inspection:

General visual inspection: also chassis, lines, assemblies, joints, exhaust system Exchange fluids
Check brakes and replace brake fluid (usually every 2 years) Check tire tread and air pressure
Change the oil, oil filter and air filter Change the cabin air filter
Change the key battery Grease doors and locks
Check outside lighting Esp. correct adjustment of the headlights

Flexible inspection intervals

Modern motor vehicles monitor their own condition more and more thoroughly. For example, the operating temperatures and speeds at which an engine is operated are also tracked. Depending on the driving style, based on calculations given by the vehicle manufacturers, the reaching of a certain load or wear limit is recognized and the driver is requested to visit his workshop for the next inspection. If the driving style is less stressful, the inspection will take place later than if the driving style is demanding. This monitoring is carried out in one of the vehicle's central control units , often in the instrument cluster , as the input variables such as temperature and speed are evaluated and displayed and the inspection request is also displayed in this unit. The calculation bases mentioned differ considerably depending on the type of engine, i.e. diesel or gasoline.
