Safety check (vehicle)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The safety test (Kfz) (SP) is a visual, effectiveness and functional test of commercial vehicles in Germany.

The following vehicle assemblies are subjected to a test:

If deficiencies are found in the tests of the vehicles, these must be recorded in the test report. The vehicle owner or his agent is responsible for remedying the defects.

Inspection deadlines

Depending on the vehicle class, the SP is carried out between the main inspections due .

Trucks with a gross vehicle weight> 7.5 t ≤ 12 t

  • first test: 42 months after initial registration
  • then always 6 months after the last general inspection

Trucks with a gross vehicle weight> 12 t

  • first test: 30 months after initial registration
  • then always 6 months after the last general inspection

Buses with more than eight passenger seats

  • first inspection: 6 months after the first general inspection
  • second inspection: 6 months after the second main inspection
  • from the third main inspection every three months. Not applicable to the date of the main inspection

Trailers with a permissible total weight> 10 t

Allocation of the test mark

Inspection sticker with inspection mark on a coach

If the vehicle is free of defects, the test mark is issued. The test mark is attached to the test sticker on the rear left of the vehicle. The arrow of the brand points to the month in which the vehicle must be brought back to the SP. The last seven digits / characters of the vehicle identification number are noted on the inspection sticker .

The color codes of the test mark are the same as the colors of the badges for HU :

2009 2015 2021 2027 etc.
2010 2016 2022 2028 etc.
2011 2017 2023 2029 etc.
2012 2018 2024 2030 etc.
2013 2019 2025 2031 etc.
2014 2020 2026 2032 etc.

The SP plate must be labeled with the vehicle identification number, ideally with a permanent marker that is indelible to documents. This labeling must be secured with a protective film. If the protective film is removed, the "Vehicle identification number" field must be destroyed in such a way that it cannot be reused, even if corrections are made.

The SP plate must be attached to the rear of the vehicle in a clearly visible position at the rear left in the direction of travel. The mounting height is to be selected so that the upper edge of the SP sign is at least 300 mm and a maximum of 1,800 mm above the roadway. The right edge of the SP plate must not be more than 800 mm from the outermost point of the rear of the vehicle. This can only be deviated from if the design of the vehicle does not permit this attachment.

The test mark is to be affixed to the circular area or in the retaining ring of the SP plate in such a way that the arrowhead points to the month in which the vehicle is to be presented for the next safety test in accordance with the provisions of Appendix VIII.

Elimination of defects

If the test mark was not assigned to the vehicle due to defects, the defects must be remedied immediately. The vehicle must be presented for a check-up within one month.

Deadline exceeded when the SP is due

Basically, the SP is to be carried out in the month indicated on the sticker. A deadline extension of four weeks is possible if the vehicle was registered for the SP in good time, but the commissioned workshop was unable to carry it out on time due to the order volume being too high. Otherwise, an HU must be carried out in addition to the SP. Furthermore, the SP can be brought forward one month without any loss of duration.

As an example: The SP is due in May and the vehicle is presented for the SP in April, then the test mark is dated to May, the same applies in the case of the scheduled overdraft by one month, i.e. in this example SP becomes in The month of June, the test mark is also dated to May.
