The confectionery pavilion in the grounds of the Promenadenring in Leipzig

The confectionery pavilion was a popular coffee house and dance restaurant in the promenade in Leipzig for over sixteen years .

The International Book Art Exhibition took place in Leipzig in 1927 . As an additional attraction and to supply the visitors, a light-weight restaurant pavilion was built in the facilities of the promenade behind the picture museum on Augustusplatz near the Moritzbastei . The design came from Karl Bertsch. The self-supporting wooden structure of the outer skin was erected in four days at the beginning of May. The exhibition started in June.

As a special highlight, the pavilion had a glass dance floor in its center, which was illuminated from below. A large outdoor seating area extended around the pavilion, which was very popular because of its location in the park.

The building was to be demolished after the exhibition ended. But it was so well received by the population that it became a permanent institution. A link to the commercial register names Wilhelm Mühlpfordt as the operator.

The pavilion fell victim to the air raid on Leipzig on December 4, 1943 and was not rebuilt. The square that is now behind the Gewandhaus can no longer show its gastronomic past.
