History and codes

CERP was founded in 1959 by PR practitioners from Belgium, France, Germany, Italy and the Netherlands.

On May 11, 1965, the CERP, together with the International Public Relations Association (IPRA) in Athens, decided on the Code d'Athénes , a moral code that should apply internationally to all members in subordinate, national practitioners' associations. The initiator and author of the code was Lucien Matrat, founding member of the CERP.

As Europe's valid Code of professional conduct in public relations was at the General Assembly of CERP in on April 16, 1978 Lisbon of the Code de Lisbonne decided. As a Europe-wide code, this is valid for all 18 national societies (from 15 European countries) that are members of the CERP.

Roberto Zangrandi, the chairman of the ENEL European Affairs office in Brussels, was elected President at the CERP General Assembly on June 21, 2008 in London.
