Coniston is a place in the Lake District in the north of England . It is on the shores of Coniston Water and at the foot of Coniston Old Man Mountain (803 m). In the past, the place lived from copper and slate mining , since the Victorian times it has been a popular holiday resort.

Tourist attractions include hiking and mountain climbing . The Lake District National Park , one of fourteen national parks in the United Kingdom , was established in 1950 and gave tourism a boost.

The Church Beck flows through the place before flowing into Coniston Water.

Personalities

Notable residents of Coniston included the poet John Ruskin and the world record holder in speed boating , Donald Campbell .
