Constantin Racoviță

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Constantin Racoviță (*?; † February 1764 in Bucharest ) was in the middle of the 18th century twice prince of Wallachia (1753–56 and 1763–64) and twice prince of Moldavia (1749–53 and 1756–57).

Like his father, Prince Mihai Racoviță , he came to power with the help of influential Greeks and, as a ruler, surrounded himself primarily with Hellenes. Under Constantin Racovită the tax payments in the Danube principalities reached unbearable proportions, but the numerous abuses and lawlessness of the Greek favorites also outraged the autochthonous population. Yet there was no social upheaval.

Racovită died in Bucharest in February 1764 as a result of a lavish feast .
