Gluttony (also gluttony , gluttony , greed , self-indulgence and intemperance ) means "rich and overeating and drinking." Gluttony ( lat. Gula ) is the characteristic trait , the vice of a person, which leads him to a dissolute and immoderate life. Gluttony is thus opposed to the Christian virtue of moderation . According to Catholic teaching, this makes people ungrateful to God and the gift of life . The punishmentfor this mortal sin there is banishment to hell and suffering eternal pain . This is another reason why nuns, monks and devout Christians lead a modest life.

Gluttony was one of the sins in Sodom and Gomorrah .
