The Consuegra dam was a Roman dam that was fed by the water of the Amarguillo in the Guadiana basin . It is located west of Consuegra in the province of Toledo in the Spanish autonomous community of Castile-La Mancha . The 4.80 meter high and at the base 2.80 meter thick pier dam from the 3rd or 4th century AD, which had a crown length of over 630 meters, has been preserved. Because of this length and the large number of supporting pillars required, the system is an important construction despite its low height. The reservoir was fed by the Amarguillo, which falls dry in summer and is one of the source rivers of the Guadiana .
