Conté pens

A Conté pen is made of heavily pressed chalk in the form of a small rectangular stick. The color palette is mainly limited to the earth colors brown , sepia and red chalk as well as black, white and various shades of gray. The pen was developed in 1795 by its namesake Nicolas-Jacques Conté .

Similar to charcoal, Conté pens are suitable for high-contrast drawings and are easy to smudge with your finger. Therefore, such drawings are usually fixed after they are completed.
