Contemporary hit radio

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Contemporary Hit Radio ( English contemporary , “contemporary” or “from today”), CHR for short , is a radio format aimed at the core target group of 14 to 29 year olds with current music from the music charts .

program

The term CHR was coined by Radio & Records magazine in the United States in the early 1980s and classified the so-called top 40 radio stations that played a format of all musical genres .

The aim is to give the young target group a maximum feeling of topicality and trendsetting . The rotation consists of relatively few hits that are currently selling the best. For a short period of time, tracks are repeated frequently (“ hot rotation ”). The program is strongly promoted . Numerous outside campaigns with active audience participation take place. The moderation is mostly “shrill” and over music beds .

News are reduced to expanded headlines and presented in a way that suits the format. The word share is low, information and news are of secondary importance. In German private radio, the format usually forms the basis for young local radio stations in the metropolises and in public broadcasting for so-called youth radio stations .

The dance-oriented CHR for the core target group from 14 to 24 years of age is a hybrid form with current titles that are played in discos and which, with trend music such as techno , dance and hip-hop , especially reaches listeners under the age of 20.
