History and cityscape

Attractions

On the southern outskirts there is a military base that has been converted into a museum, which was set up in 1921 in a building built in 1668. In the main street in the city center, another museum is worth seeing, in which, in addition to agricultural equipment, etc. a. the first Mongol in space, the cosmonaut Dschügderdemidiin Gürragschaa , is remembered. He was born in Aimag Bulgan in 1947.

The mausoleum of Khatanbaatar Magsarjav, venerated as a national hero, who liberated the Mongolian city of Chowd from the Chinese in 1912 , is located on a hill in the southwest of the city.

Just outside the city center, Dashchoinkhorlon Khiid Monastery is well worth a visit. It was built in 1992 after the previous building, the Bangiin-Khuree monastery, inhabited by around 1,000 monks, was destroyed in 1937 under Chorloogiin Tschoibalsan .

Infrastructure

As the aimag capital, Bulgan is the seat of various authorities and schools. The city also has a hospital, hotels and some shops.

traffic

Bulgan Airport (UGA / ZMBN) has an unpaved runway. It has regular flights to and from Ulan Bator and also serves as a stop for some of the western aimags. Public buses run between Bulgan, Erdenet and Ulan Bator.

Surroundings

The 1,600 ha Uran-Togoo-Tulga nature reserve is popular because of its extinct volcanoes, of which the uranium Uul is the most famous. It is about 60 km west of Bulgan.
