history

After the company was founded in 1894 by Jan Antonín Baťa, the family-owned factory originally produced work, protective and street shoes. Only after it was taken over by his brother Tomáš Baťa in 1932 was the site increasingly used for tire production.

The Barum company was founded in 1945 from a merger of the shoe and rubber manufacturers Ba ťa in Zlín , Ru bena in Náchod and M itas. Barum has been part of the Continental Corporation since March 1, 1993 . At the Otrokovice production site in the Czech Republic, car and light truck tires have been produced since 1966. From 1972 the city developed into the center for tire production in the former Czechoslovakia .

The brand has been hosting the Barum Rally since 1971. As part of the European Championship, this is mostly driven in Zlín and the surrounding area or in Slovakia (1985/86) every year. What began as an amateur competition in the first year developed into a component of the touring car championships in the second year and is now one of the most popular motorsport events in the Czech Republic.

Barum has been part of the Continental Group since 1993. Due to the higher research capacities within the Continental Corporation, the brand was able to expand its production from passenger car tires to tires for trucks and agricultural equipment in 1994. The renewal of the production halls by Continental ensured that even more tires could be manufactured. Today, the Otrokovice plant produces more than 20 million tires for various types of vehicles every year. With its tire plant, Barum is also the largest employer in the Zlín region in the Czech Republic. In 1998 Barum was awarded a health and environmental protection prize for a high level of environmental control system.

In 2012 the brand was renamed Barum sro In 2018 Barum celebrated its 70th anniversary.
