Continente Modelo
Continente Modelo is a Portuguese supermarket chain. It previously belonged to the French Carrefour group and has been owned by the Sonae group since 2007 . The Modelo Continente Hipermercados are the retail division of Sonae, Portugal's largest holding. It is the largest retailer in the country with a large network of hypermarkets in shopping centers.
history
The company started in 1985 from the merger of the two supermarkets Modelo and Continente. While Modelo belonged to a foreign company, Continente is of purely Portuguese origin. In 1985 it opened its first hypermarket, called “Continente”, in Matosinhos . It is the flagship store of Sonae Distribuição . It has received the “Superbrands” award for six years in a row, an award for brands that stand out from their competitors through outstanding performance. In addition, Continente has been named the "Brand of Trust" for the 9th time in a row in Portugal.
