The Contoocook River Railroad , CRR for short , is a former railroad company in New Hampshire ( United States ). It was founded on June 24, 1848, initially as Contoocook Valley Railroad and built a standard gauge railway line from Contoocook to Hillsboro , which opened in December 1849. The 23.6 km long route branched off in Contoocook from the Concord and Claremont Railroad, which opened in 1849/50 . The southern continuation of this route towards Massachusetts was later carried out by the Peterborough and Hillsborough Railroad .

On October 1, 1857, it was reorganized into Contoocook River Railroad . The railway company merged on October 31, 1873 with the Merrimac and Connecticut Rivers Railroad , which had taken over the old Concord & Claremont, and the Sugar River Railroad to form a new Concord and Claremont Railroad. In 1884 the Boston and Lowell Railroad leased the railroad, followed by the Boston and Maine Railroad in 1890. The line is no longer in operation today.
