Convenevole da Prato (* between 1270 and 1275; † 1338 in Prato (Tuscany) ) was an Italian notary , envoy and educator.

Life

As a notary and professor of logic , grammar and rhetoric , Convenevole is considered to be the first Latin teacher to Francesco Petrarch and his brother Gherardo . He taught both in Pisa (1311/12) and later in Provence, where her father, Ser Petracco di Parenzo , had sent his sons to study law. Petrarch described his teacher, with whom he was a close friend, as a restless character who did not complete any of his literary works. The attribution of praise to the ruler of Robert von Anjou “Carmina Regia” is controversial : a collection of around 3700 liturgical verses and numerous illuminations signed “Professor Pratensis”. Convenevole was back in Prato by 1336 at the latest and was listed there as the official teacher of the Comune.
