The company Convergent Technologies was supported by a small troop of former Intel -Staff in 1979 founded and started in the 80's known as a manufacturer of computer systems in client-server -Umfeld.

The first product was the IWS ( Integrated Workstation ) system based on the Intel 8086 processor. A proprietary development called CTOS was implemented as the operating system. Later, the "MiniFrame" or " MightyFrame " systems were converted to processors from Motorola ( 68010 , 68020 and 68040 ), whereby a Unix- like operating system called CTIX was used.

Convergent also developed the first OEM Unix product for AT&T on the Motorola 68010, and integrated some features into the Intel AT&T Unix ( SVR3.2 ):

  • Stream-based I / O operations
  • Support for internationalization (multilingualism)

Convergent Technologies was acquired by Unisys in 1988 and incorporated into the company as a "Business Division".
