CoolType

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

CoolType is a graphics technology, or more precisely, a subpixel hinting process from Adobe Inc. to increase the legibility of fonts on color LCDs such as laptop or TFT monitors, in particular to make it easier to read longer texts such as e-books . But readability is also improved on CRT screens .

The technology is based on the subpixel technique , in which the three primary colors red, green and blue are controlled in such a way that the resolution is increased up to three times and thus more sharpness can be gained than the fine color fringes reduce it. CoolType is comparable to ClearType from Microsoft and Quartz from Apple .
