Cordel (unit)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Cordel , with cord and Cuerda called, was an old Spanish measure.

Despite a law of July 19, 1849 and the different dates (January 1855 and 1859) for the introduction of the French system of measures and weights, many old measures remained in Spain , Cuba and South America, which was influenced by Spain . The Cordel was dependent on the Elle , also called Vara .

  • One vara was 0.8350050 meters , from which it follows that 1 meter was equal to 1.196308 vara.

This is the Vara de Burgos, the Castilian Vara.

  • 1 cord = 8.25 varas = 24.75 pies, 25 pies were also calculated depending on the location.
  • in Cuba: 1 cord = 24 Vara = 72 feet = 20.3448 meters
