The Black Belt Tail ( Cordylus niger ) is a medium-sized lizard living in the area of ​​the South African Table Mountain on the Cape Peninsula . There is also an isolated population near Langebaan. He mostly lives in crevices on Table Mountain. In contrast to other lizards, the black belt tails are mostly found alone. Their bodies are flat, black in color, and have a pointed tail.

The head is triangular and flattened and the size is the same in both males and females. They have 5–10 fermoral pores on each thigh , but females have no glandular scales in front of these.

Their color helps them to absorb heat from the sunlight, as they live in the darkest and sun-free area of ​​South Africa.
