Corn dog
A corn dog (English for "corn dog", the "dog" is a short form of "hot dog") is an American snack . It consists of a sausage that is wrapped in a corn dough shell and fried in hot oil (less often baked) (similar to a hot dog ).
Originally offered without a handle, nowadays they are almost exclusively served with a mostly round wooden handle; however, mini-corn dogs the size of a plum are also available. Corny Dogs were first offered by Neil Fletcher in 1942 at the Texas State Fair . The first "stalked" corn dog was the Cozy Dog , developed in 1946 by Ed Waldmire Jr. and his friend Don Strand , which is still sold today at Cozy Dog Drive In in Springfield , Illinois.
In Australia , the snack is called Dagwood Dog , Pluto Pup or Dippy Dog , depending on the region.
