Corrie Church

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Corrie Church is a church building of the Presbyterian Church of Scotland in the Scottish village of Corrie on the island of Arran in the Council Area North Ayrshire . It is not to be confused with the Corrie Free Church . In 1971 the structure was included in the Scottish Monument Lists in Monument Category B. The church is still in use as such, but only with irregular services.

description

The building was built in 1887 to a design by Scottish architect John James Burnet . It is set back from the Uferstraße ( A841 ) north of the town center and not far from the port of Corrie . The unusual red sandstone building looks rather brawny and shows features of neo-Gothic architecture. On the top of the gable roof there is a narrow ridge that carries the two bells. The entrance area on the northwest side is designed with a wooden canopy. Round chandeliers light up the interior, in which, among other things, two tapestries hang. The leaded glass windows are more recent.
