The short route first leads through a tunnel and opens up the Chantarella hill. The first car was able to transport 70 people, today it is 100. The drive takes place in the mountain station.

history

The Chantarellabahn was the first mountain railway in the Upper Engadine to be built by a private company in 1913. It also served the development of the Hotel Chantarella and the ski slopes next to it, as well as the villas through three intermediate stations. In connection with the construction of the 2nd section (Corvigliabahn), the route from Belmunt was relocated a little north and a new mountain station was built in order to be able to offer an optimal transfer situation. The intermediate stations may have been canceled in this context. The cars were also replaced in 1928 or 1930.

Further renovations took place in 1964 with the replacement of the two cars and in 1994 by Doppelmayr.

The Corvigliabahn, as an extension of the Chantarellabahn, was the first funicular in Switzerland that led directly to a ski area. It is a single-track funicular with a turnout. The drive is in the mountain station.

history

Shortly before Christmas 1928, the Corvigliabahn opened as an extension of the Chantarellabahn. In order to simplify the change on the Chantarella, the upper half of the Chantarella cable car was moved slightly in the same year and led directly to the valley station of the Corviglia cable car.

During the renovation in 1986, the line was partially re-routed and the upper half of the route was stilted, mostly above the old route, but below the mountain station in a curved arc around 20 m to the west. The tunnel at the passing point was also rebuilt a few meters to the west. In addition to the first wooden wagons, historical photos also show newer light metal wagons that ran before the 1985/86 conversion. The double carriages in use since then with a capacity of 200 people were the largest funicular carriages in the world at the time.

As a continuation, a cable car was built from Corviglia to Piz Nair in 1955 .
