Counterterrorism Pursuit Team

A Counterterrorism Pursuit Team ( CTPT ) is a paramilitary counter-terrorism unit operated by the CIA in Afghanistan . In September 2010 it comprised around 3,000 mostly Afghan soldiers. One of its tasks is to track down and kill enemy forces in the border area between Afghanistan and Pakistan . They also operate on Pakistani soil.

Some of the soldiers were trained in the USA and receive a higher salary than comparable soldiers in the Afghan army . Its main base is in Kabul , with other bases on the Pakistani border (including Firebase Lilley four miles from the border). The troops also undertake reconnaissance activities and prepare drone attacks .
