The Cowtown Jubilee was an American country show broadcast by KCMO of Kansas City , Missouri . The Cowtown Jubilee should not be confused with the Cowtown Jamboree from Fort Worth , Texas , hosted by Bill Mack .

history

The Cowtown Jubilee first aired in 1950. The show was held every Saturday night at the Ivanhoe Temple in Kansas City, which could hold a total of 1,282 spectators. Due to the large reach of KCMO, a 50,000 watt station, the show became very popular in Missouri and Kansas during the 1950s, not least because of the popularity of such shows and the "golden era" of country music in the early 1950s . The Cowtown Jamboree lasted an average of four hours, but only part of it was broadcast live on the radio. The broadcast began at eight in the evening and was broadcast by KCMO until half past eight.

The show was hosted by Dal Stallard, a DJ for the station. At times he was helped with this task by the producer of the Jubilee, Hoby Shepp, who was also head of the house band, the Cowtown Wranglers . The program's musician ensemble consisted of permanent members who were often of regional origin, guest appearances by famous country musicians as well as appearances by young groups and musicians who were selected in the Jubilees casting show, the "Talent Quest". This gives many young musicians a stepping stone to better-known shows such as the Big D Jamboree and the Louisiana Hayride . Regular members of the show were the Sons of the Golden West , Milt Dickey, "Balin 'Wire" Bob Strack, Peggy Clark and Jimmy Dallas .

These days the Cowtown Jubilee is no longer on the air. KCMO has changed its format to be a news channel.
