Craighall Castle

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Craighall Castle is a ruined castle in the village of Ceres in the Scottish county of Fife . Sir Thomas Hope had the castle built in 1637, but there was already a tower on this site from the previous owners of the property. Today the castle has been torn down and only a few remains of the walls have been preserved.

history

The land belonged to Andrew Kinninmond and his family before they sold it to Sir Thomas Hope. Hope had the castle built in 1637. In 1954 the old tower was removed after the castle's granary burned down. Overall, the castle was in a very poor condition and was completely demolished in 1957. Only a few remains of the wall have survived.

architecture

Craighall Castle was built from rubble and cut blocks. The walls are between 1.0 and 1.3 meters thick. An old wall, 10 meters long and 3.5 meters high, can still be seen on the property today.
