Crisis in the Kremlin ( German  : Crisis in the Kremlin ) is a computer strategy game that was published in 1991 by Spectrum HoloByte for MS-DOS . The player takes on the role of the head of state of the Soviet Union with the aim of leading the state through the period of perestroika .

Gameplay

The player controls the general party line through a 2D interface, and the state budget can be redistributed every year. The game is not turn-based and the player is confronted with numerous decisions such as the nuclear power plant accident in Chernobyl or the war in Afghanistan . The decisions made have an impact on the further development of the game.

At the beginning the player has the choice of joining either the reformists under Mikhail Gorbachev , the nationalists under Boris Yeltsin or a faction of hardliners under Yegor Ligachev .

It is theoretically possible to dissolve the Soviet Union peacefully or to keep it beyond its actual historical timeframe.
