Cristóbal Repetto (born July 9, 1979 in Maipú , Argentina ) is a tango singer and composer . He is called the successor of the tango icon Carlos Gardel because of his voice and his vintage style .

Life

Cristóbal Repetto, who was born on the Argentine national holiday, grew up in the small provincial town of Maipú and, influenced by folklore and tango, began to sing at the age of 16. In 1996 he took 3rd place in a competition in his hometown. In the same year he was on stage with Mariano Mores . In 1998 he began studying music and journalism in Buenos Aires . He took singing and composition lessons and performed in traditional tango bars in the city. Daniel Melingo soon began promoting his career. After an appearance in the tango channel Sólo Tango , Gustavo Santaolalla became aware of him and invited him to work on the first album of his Bajofondo Tango Club (which was awarded a Latin Grammy ) and to go on a world tour.

Even if Repetto's voice is compared with that of Carlos Gardel, there are no pieces by the master, who died in an accident in 1935, on his debut CD from 2004, "... to avoid this direct comparison," as Repetto says in an interview with Elke Koepping . The sound of the CD is not only influenced by Repetto's nasal voice, but also by Javier Casalla with his straw violin . This instrument can best be described with a mixture of violin and gramophone . Repetto can also be heard together with Casalla's violin on Daniel Melingo's CD Maldito Tango, which was released in 2007 .
