Cromlech from Errenga

The Cromlechs of Errenga (Basque Erenga) are two groups of previously a total of 10 stone circles , which are located in the northwestern foothills of the 794 m high Errenga in the north of the province of Navarra , between Oiartzun (Spanish Oyarzun ) and Lesaka (Spanish Lesaca ), on the border to the Basque Country , in Spain . Eight circles have been preserved. The stone circles were discovered in 1909 by P. Soraluce, who carried out an excavation with T. de Aranzadi in 1915.

The group in the southwest consists of four stone circles (here called Cromlechs ; Basque Harrespil).

  • Cromlech 1 is oval, has a diameter of about 6.5 by 5.0 m and 23 visible stones, including two 30 and 37 cm high.
  • Cromlech 2 is oval, about 7.0 by 6.5 m in diameter and has 40 visible stones, including 15 that are 10 to 90 cm high.
  • Cromlech 3 has a diameter of about 8.0 m and consists of 40 visible stones, 22 of which are 10 to 115 cm high.
  • Cromlech 4 has a diameter of around 4.6 m and consists of 13 visible stones, including seven between 15 and 35 cm.

The second group, about ten meters north of the first, consists of four more cromlechs, three of which form a triangle.

  • Cromlech 5 is approximately 7.7 m in diameter and consists of 23 visible stones, including four 15 to 45 cm high.
  • Cromlech 6 has a diameter of about 5.2 m and consists of 20 visible stones, nine of which are between 15 and 50 cm.
  • Cromlech 7 is approximately 6.0 m in diameter and consists of 23 visible stones, 12 of which are 10 to 55 cm high.

The Arritxulangaña cromlechs are located about 850 m south.
