Cryhavoc is a melodic death metal band from Helsinki , Finland .

The band name comes from a quote from Shakespeare's drama Julius Caesar ("Cry, 'Havoc!' And let slip the dogs of war") and is an attack signal in the hunt or in war .

Band history

Cryhavoc were founded in 1992 as a classic death metal band under the name Preprophecy . After recording several demos, the bassist and drummer left the band in 1996. As a replacement Taneli Nyholm ( Babylon Whores ) and Matti Roiha were hired by the Finnish band Absurdus and the band name was changed to Ravensfall . When Absurdus got a record deal, Nyholm and Roiha went back to their main band.

With the two new members - Kari Myöhänen and Pauli Tolvanen - the name of the band was changed to the current version Cryhavoc. A contract for several albums was signed with Spinefarm Records . In January 1998, the Tico-Tico Studio in Kemi began recording the debut album Sweetbriers , which was significantly more melodic than the demos and was released in May of the same year.

In August 1999 the second album Pitch Black Blues was released in Finland, shortly afterwards in Europe and in December in South America.

The band still exists, and the contract with the label is still active. In 2005/2006 the band gave a few appearances.
