Cryptographic Next Generation (CNG) Reference on MSDN

Cryptography API: Next Generation ( CNG ) is Microsoft's cryptography platform starting with Windows Vista , and replaces the CryptoAPI of the previous versions of Windows in 2007 . All of their functions are still supported. With the help of the CNG, cryptography applications can be implemented in high-security environments.

Functions

The API combines several task packages:

• Creation and management of cryptography tasks on a kernel-mode and user-mode basis
• Wide range of algorithms in cryptology
• CNG supports all Suite B algorithms. This means that it can be classified as highly secure, secure and private
  • AES
  • ECC
  • SHA -256, SHA-384 and SHA-512
  • DSA
  • ECDH
  • ECMQV

The CNG's tasks are largely audited in the Microsoft Software Key Storage Provider (KSP).
