Cubbie Roo's Castle

Cubbie Roo's Castle is a ruined castle on Wyre , one of Scotland's Orkney Islands.

The castle was built around 1150, making it one of the oldest castles in Scotland. It was mentioned in the Orkneyinga saga . Your name is derived from the Kolbein Hrugas , who is said to have lived there.

The King Haakon saga mentions that the last Norwegian Earl of Orkney , John , was killed in Thurso . His murderers fled to Wyre and sought refuge in the castle. Cubbie Roo's Castle was so impregnable that the besiegers were forced to negotiate a deal with the murderers to get them out of there.
