The Republican Party ( CP , Cumhuriyetçi Parti in Turkish ) was a political party in Turkey .

history

The Republican People's Party (CHP) , which is considered the founder of the Turkish Republic in 1923, was the country's oldest party. However, after the party took over the so-called “ center-left policy” from 1966 under its chairman Bülent Ecevit , two groups of parliamentarians split off from the party. The first set up the Confidence Party in 1967 , while the second set up the Republican Party in 1972.

The party was founded on September 4, 1972. The founding chairman of the party was Kemal Satır , a former vice prime minister. However, six months later, on February 28, 1973, the party was merged with the Nationalist Trust Party (aka the Trust Party), which was renamed the Republican Trust Party.
