Cunning Dorx

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Cunning Dorx are an alternative rock band from Austria .

The band was founded in April 1994 by school friends Christof Ulreich, Beno Unger and Patrick Peklar in Unterschützen in Burgenland . Lead guitarist Alfons Bauernfeind joined them just a few weeks later.

In the first few years, the Cunning Dorx made their way with appearances in pubs in the area. The first album, Flauschangriff , was released in 2001. Characteristic for the Cunning Dorx of this time were complicated musical structures, seemingly random lyrics and apparently meaningless song titles. Albert Bock played bass at this point. Beno Unger had already left the band at that time, but continued to work with the Cunning Dorx on performances and recordings .

After Bock left, bassist Bernd Schmudermaier and keyboardist Markus Hoffmann joined the Cunning Dorx in autumn 2003 . The use of synthesizers and piano opened up a new sonic dimension for the band. Schmudermaier's deliberately succinct bass drive fitted well into the band's new musical line, with simpler structures, clearer lines and serious, mostly English, lyrics. The second album, This kind of beauty , was published by the young Viennese label oddtime records and presented in October 2005. The single The blue rider has been running regularly since then, "My sweetest symphony" since September 2006 on Austrian alternative music channels such as FM4 . The video for this was shot by director friend Ulrich Dallinger.

The style of the Cunning Dorx has changed several times since it was more than ten years old, what has remained is the mixture of very different musical styles, which is mainly due to the very rich musical background of the band members. Today you can discover influences from alternative rock , hardcore punk , Celtic folk and classical music .
