Curio (Office)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Curio was the head of a curia in Roman cities, about whose powers and legal position little is known. With the introduction of the centurial structure of the citizenry, its importance in political and military terms must have become obsolete. Therefore, only the remaining religious function of overseeing the sacred interests of the Curia, the sacra curianum , has survived, which remained unaffected during the Roman Empire . In republican times the curions are subordinate to a curio maximus elected by the popular assembly .
