Cusco (band)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Cusco was a German music project from Weilheim that was founded in 1979.

It consisted mainly of the composer , keyboard player and producer Kristian Schultze as well as singer, lyricist, composer and producer Michael Holm . Schultze was keyboardist in Klaus Doldinger's jazz rock project Passport and Holm was a well-known pop singer in the seventies .

Cusco's style can best be described as instrumental New Age . As the names suggest, these are concept albums with themes about foreign countries and cultures as well as islands and water worlds. "Alcatraz" and "Galapagos" from "Desert Island" are among the most famous pieces. The music is characterized by catchy melodies and panpipes.

Cusco celebrated its greatest successes in Japan , South Korea and the USA , with several million albums sold worldwide.

In 1992 Cusco composed the music for the 20-part TV series "Sielmann 2000".

The project was nominated three times for a Grammy , most recently in 2004 in the category Best New Age Album .
